Her Story, Her Freedom

About
Her Story, Her Freedom is a photo exhibition and creative activity all about empowering women to break free and tell their story their way! A photo and storytelling project by Bash Creative Studio and Central Women’s Aid- celebrating International Women's Day. We will have creative activities, stalls, talks and light refreshments alongside the Photography event. Her Story, Her Freedom honours the quiet strength, the visible scars, and the unseen battles of women who have survived domestic abuse. It is a celebration of resilience, healing, and solidarity. Through powerful portraits and deeply personal reflections, this project gives space to the stories that too often go unheard. This project brings together survivors of domestic abuse and the people—friends, advocates, sisters, and strangers turned supporters who walk beside them. Each photo is anonymous—faces are not shown, but stories are. Through shadows, silhouettes, hands, objects, and words, this project expresses the raw realities of domestic abuse and the quiet resilience that follows. Featured in each image are powerful words chosen by participants themselves—words like fragile, strength, fear, rise, and free—capturing both the deep wounds and the fierce hope carried through the healing process. Through raw portraits and real stories, we honour both the fragility and strength in every step toward freedom. These are the quiet moments of courage, the shared glances of understanding, and the hands held along the way. Each image represents a step towards freedom. A voice. A moment of truth. A reclaiming of power. Because freedom looks different for every survivor. And every story matters.
